Dominion Lightning Rod Co. Ltd. is engaged in the design, manufacture, installation, inspection, and certification of Lightning Protection Systems in Canada. Since 1898, and now in our sixth generation, we have been proudly owned and operated by the Cliff family of Dundas, Ontario.

We supply, manufacture and install systems which we certify to any specified standards including the CSA B72, NFPA 780, UL96A, LPI.

We design and manufacture lightning protection equipment that is listed and labelled to the UL96 standard that meets, and in most cases exceeds, North American code requirements for strength and durability. Our ability to integrate the manufacturing and applications sections of our business together to design custom solutions for non-standard applications is a unique asset.

Our installation personnel are the most experienced in the country, with over 75 years combined experience and have installed systems on over 12000 structures. We are trained and certified by UL96A and the Lightning Protection Institute (LPI)

Our installation base is as broad as it is deep. We have installed lightning protection systems on communications towers (including the CN Tower), hospitals, high rise commercial / condominium buildings, universities and colleges, mobile communications system sites, data centers, energy complexes, industrial facilities, churches, homes, cottages and barns throughout Canada and in the Caribbean. In addition, Dominion has designed and manufactured the lightning protection systems for over 90% of the industrial smokestacks in Canada.

We can provide services to Architects, Consulting Engineers, Contractors, and Property Owners for the preparation of designs and specifications, risk evaluations, and budget estimates.  We also perform inspections and certifications of existing Lightning Protections systems to any of the standards listed above.

Our President is currently the Vice Chairman, and formerly the Chairman, of the Lightning Protection Technical Committee of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and has direct input into the revision and upgrading of Canadian Codes and Standards for Lightning Protection Systems, the CSA B72 standard. He is also a member of the Technical Committee of the UL96/96a.

In addition, we are completely familiar with the NFPA 780 code used in the United States and we are also a listed certified contractor for UL96A Installation Standard for Lightning Protection Systems. We are an affiliate member of the Lightning Protection Institute (LPI) and an associate member of the Lightning Safety Alliance (LSA).
